The director seems to be
showing us people, characters, scenes and things that interest him, and they
interested me too: a wonderful woman jazz singer, Jeremy Irons in many poses
and thief costumes, fast sail boats, an Moroccan soothsayer, and so forth. The
director lingers on each of these. However, there is little coherence to the
movie — it is seriously under written, I think; sometimes it is amusing, but
the underlying story is silly in these cases.
