A note on the 1997 Academy Awards
All in all some deserving
actors were chosen, although my favorite performances of the year
didn't win in the case of Robert Foster, Peter Fonda, and Helena
Bonham Carder.
Titanic was doomed to win, but it wasn't as good a movie as any of
the other four nominees. Of those actually nominated, L.A.
Confidential was the best movie and was the only one of the five
nominated that I thought was a first rate movie. The two other
first rate movies for me in the year (Wings of the Dove and Jackie
Brown) didn't get nominated.
