As I watched this movie, I couldn't help but think about the movie Chicago and how much better edited this one was, so that the song and dance numbers had visual coherence. The movie looks great, with clever interspersing of realistic and stagy scenes. The acting is uniformly fine, and the singing is uniformly excellent (even amazing in some instances). The movie is a lot of fun to watch, and the music has a strong beat. However, the music is also (with some notable exceptions) not very good, in my view.
