Girl with a Pearl Earring

The director seems to be
trying to emulate some of the style and the light of Vermeer paintings in the
look of his film, and this is nice to see. The social situation and
interactions of the girl and of the artist and his family are definitely
interesting to see and to contemplate. However, the film moves slowly (not in
itself a bad thing) and the director's efforts to create engaging tension (via
the accompanying music, for instance) is not successful.
