A note on some disagreements with The 1996 Academy Awards
I have three substantial disagreements with
The Academy:
For best actress, Frances McDormand was outstanding in Fargo,
but Brenda Blethyn and Emily Watson were even better in Secrets
and Lies and Breaking the Waves.
For best supporting actress, Juliette Binoche was very good in
The English patient, but Marianne Jean-Baptiste was great in
Secrets and Lies.
For best movie, The English Patient was very good, but
Secrets and Lies and Fargo were in an even higher class.
