Away from Her
Rating = B+
Grant has always wanted to be
with Fiona (Julie Christie) despite occasional flings with his
university students. They have stayed married for over 40 years and
enjoy and are comfortable with each other. She appreciates that he has
stuck with her, and she has let him stay; she has extended grace (mercy)
to him when she could have pushed him away. He realizes that, because of
her plight, he now has to let her go. Her natural grace helps him see
the need, and his life long capability of manipulation helps him
find the way.
Directory Sarah Polley has made a beautiful (but sad) film with more
than a little of the feel and look of the “The Sweet Hereafter” by
Atom Egoyan (her director in that film and apparently her mentor for
this film). The acting is perfect for the story all around.
