This is circa 1800 story of England, in a time when
the British shipping moguls make money in the slave trade and when women from high society typically don't have
their own money and need to marry a wealthy man. The half-black motherless young daughter of a rich sea captain is
deposited into this world where she is raised by an uncle (and aunt) in all the ways of society, including the restrictions on
her own participation. The uncle and aunt are also raising another niece who needs a husband with money, while the
first niece is independently wealthy but not suitable marriage material because of her color. It is a fine production
with good acting.
