Canaletto and the Art of Venice
Rating = C-
This is
another in the Exhibition-On-Screen series of documentaries about famous artists, mostly based on particular
exhibitions of the artist's work. The film promotes itself as involving The Queen's Gallery in London.
These films typically have a good bit of art and commentary by “talking heads”
describing the artist's life and insights about the art. This film has expecially dull talking
heads, and the Queen apparently was stingy about her art being shown — the same few collections of pictures
were shown again and again, mostly from a distance and even a distant angle. I did learn a
few things.
