Connie and Carla
Rating = B-
Nia Vardalos, author and
co-lead actress, has made a movie promoting dinner theater, which
is a pretty quirky idea to begin with. To try to make this work,
she gives us a completely contrived story of two women pretending
they are men in order hide among a bunch of men in drag. It
worked in Some Like It Hot, but it doesn't really work here.
Nonetheless, the numerous musical numbers are wonderfully funny to
watch — more would have been even better. Toni Collette, the
other co-lead, is great; her talent appears to have no limits.
