Gilles' Wife (French)
Rating = B+
The images are
wonderful, especially the images of Emmanuelle Devos, whose visage
reminds me so much of Julianna Margulies and Amy Brenneman. The movie
has little dialog, and one reviewer noted that Devos would have been a
splendid silent film actor. The life of Gilles' wife (we don't learn
her name for a long time) is completely focused around her husband,
children, and home, and she feels content. When Gilles proves
unfaithful, her world turns upside down in ways that are surprising and
make us think.
