Italian for Beginners
Rating = B+
Delightful, if a little
pat. Each of the six lead characters has a more or less every day job
and existence but is stuck in some sort of a rut. Also, their lives
intertwine in various ways. As the movie runs on, all six end up in an
Italian class at their neighborhood community center (in Denmark),
along with three other people, on a path to breaking out of their ruts
and finding love.
The movie is in the Dogma series — the first Dogma film, I believe, by a woman
director — and, for this film, the Dogma principles work well. I particularly
liked the closing credits.
