Milk
Rating = B+
I had a mixed reaction to this film.
While I was watching it I was thinking that it wasn't so special,
e.g., only a B. The acting was uniformly fine, but Sean Penn
didn't seem to be the wonder in the role that lots of people said
he was. I sort of thought his character was a pretty regular guy
who was a little weird, with a certain knack for politics. On the
other hand, that's not the Sean Penn at all that I've seen in other
roles. Maybe he is so good he just makes it look natural. However,
afterwards, I could not stop thinking about it. It's a biopic,
which is not a great genre, I think; certainly not when it is done
was as much apparent realism as in this film. Still, I think it
should not be missed. Oh yes — the intermixing of archival
footage and newly shot film is excellent.
