Moonrise Kingdom
Rating = A-
The famous saying "god is in the detail"
definitely fits this film. Every scene, even when just a few seconds long, is perfectly planned and
carried out. The film is loaded with whimsy — or maybe that's fantasy. Edward Norton and Bruce Willis and the two young kids are
wonderful in their parts. The other main adults roles are all well acted: how could they not be when played by Bill Murray,
Frances McDormand, Bob Balaban, and Tilda Swinton. The story is of young love and how adult they are compared
to the adults and other children around them. There are all sorts of allusions to literature and myth: Noah and the
flood, A Mid Summer Nights Dream, Wendy and the lost boys, etc. The music is wonderful.
You may want to see it more than once. Be sure to stay for all the credits.
