No Reservations
Rating = B-
The is a Hollywood remake of
“Mostly Martha” which was in German. It is a very accurate remake,
although a few things a explained slightly more, a useful part of the
story (about the father) is left out, and a couple of other partial
scenes are left out. It is not as good a movie as “Mostly Martha.”
In particular, Aaron Eckhart is not nearly as good in the role of the
Italian chef as Sergio Castellitto was in the earlier film. Catherine
Zeta-Jones is fine in her role, but Martina Gedeck was better yet.
And Castellitto and Gedeck had much better “chemistry” than Eckhart
and Zeta-Jones do. If I had not seen “Mostly Martha” first, I
might have thought “No Reservations” should have a higher rating.
