Pan's Labrinth (in Spanish---El Laberinto del fauno)
Rating = B
This is an
inventive film with lots of
beautiful photography and computer image generation but, to my mind,
not as wonderful as many real critics think. There are parallels
between the real and imaginary worlds (evil to be overcome, heros
trying to overcome it) but the juxtaposition seems contrived and
neither world is enjoyable to watch — just impressive. Young Ivana
Baquero in this film reminded me of Natalie Portman in 1994's
“Léon” — her look and her demeanor.
