This is the story of a women in Ireland who in the 1950s had her illegitimate son taken away from at his age 3. The taking was done by the nuns of the convent where the woman was living and doing hard work in the convent laundry. It is also somewhat the story of the son, adopted by Americans, who spent years looking for his birth mother, while she was simultaneously looking for him. It is a scandalous story based on true events.
