Queen, The

Rating = A-

This film is very well done. It presents believable interpretations of the British royal family, of the views of the monarchy held by the people, and of the incidents during the week following Princess Diana's death. Some of the characterizations may be caricatures (e.g., Prince Charles, Prince Philip, and the Queen Mother), but it is easy — certainly fun — to believe the caricatures are accurate. The two lead roles, Tony Blair and Queen Elizabeth, are very well played. The film's use of archival film footage is done particularly well. The film provides a great example of the maxim, “show, don't tell.”
