Ready to Wear (on video)
Rating = B-
In recent years, we
have tried to see Altman's movies as they have come out: The
Gingerbread Man, Cookie's Fortune, Dr. T \& the Women and, most
recently, Gosford Park. I was vaguely aware that we missed a couple
after Altman's Short Cuts, so we rented the video of Read to Wear
(originally titled Pret-a-Porter, with French accents over a couple of
the vowels).
This is another Altman movie about a community
of people, in the personal connection sense of the word “community,” not in the sense of the village boundary line. It's a spoof of a piece
of the fashion industry and somewhat funny. I'm sorry I didn't see
it on the big screen where all those scenes of the
runway would have really been worth looking at.
