Secret of the Grain, The (in French)

Rating = B

This is the story of a complicated immigrant family (from North Africa) which has been in France a long time, intermarried with immigrants from other countries (and there are also some relations with the “real” French), and thinks of itself as French, although the “real” French people don't think of them as being quite so French. I feel like I learn a lot from the movie about this immigrant class of people.

This is a really good movie — an A movie — except that is too long (254 minutes). Many scenes are played at real-time speed, which is impressive (and undoubtedly part of the director's plan) but you want them to stop before they do. Still, I'm very happy I saw it.
