Third Man, The
Rating = B-
A year or more ago, a friend loaned
me a copy of this DVD. I finally got around to watching it. Once more, I became convinced
that the supposedly great movies of the past don't stand up well in comparison
to contemporary movies. We are not used to their style anymore, and of course their production
values are necessarily much weaker. It is probably better to keep the great old movies
in our minds rather than actually seeing them again. In this case, I had never since
The Third Man before, so it was worth seeing it for a first time,
even if it's not nearly as good
from my point of view as more modern noir films such as Bound or The Last Seduction.
