Twenty Forty-six (2046)
Rating = C
Here was I said about
a previous film by this director: “In the Mood for
Love”; Rating = B; Interesting film making with lots of interesting
camera angles. Very moody. Ultimately, nothing happens, and it's not
clear why not.
This film also looks great with lots of
stunningly clear close-ups, shots through doorways, and rich colors.
However, again nothing happens — for over two hours. And, despite
nothing happening, the directory confuses us about who-is-who and
when-what-happens. The scenes of the lead character's futuristic sexy
novel could have been completely left out. The official reviews talk
about the director's romantic view of missed timing in matters of
love. This may be true, but mainly it comes across as
self-indulgence. Drink lots of caffeine before going to this movie.
