Wah-Wah

The previews make this look like a
comedy, but it is actually a quite sad movie. It is apparently quite
autobiographical by a first time writer and director (who is normally
an actor), and thus has flaw typical of many personally-based first
books. The setting — among British officials in colonial Africa at the
time of Independence — made it hard for me to care about these
characters: I'm just not much interested in this ruling class of
Brits. However, the coming-of-age story of the boy did get to me in
the end.
