We Were Soldiers Once
Rating = B
This movie is quite true
to book, We Were Soldiers Once...and Young. It is bloody and
traumatic and often not fun to watch.
The movie does a particularly good job,
I think, of showing the logistical side of battle: helicopters
constantly shuttling
between the battle zone and the supply depot and command post 15
minutes away, bring fresh soldiers, water and ammunition to the battle
and taking the dead and wounded away.
The movie also highlights a lot of silliness on the part of the higher
levels of the military resulting from an undeclared war and over
concern with PR to show successful prosecutions of the non-war.
The movie also highlights the great courage and determination of most of the men in the
battle and the great sadness of the wives and family left behind as the
news of the deaths of solders arrives home.
